These forceps have no serration, which could harm the delicate structures of prostheses. It is suited for inserting the prosthesis into the
ear.

The McGee ear forceps is an example of changing standards over the years. With many McGee forceps, the front part before the outlet notch for the anvil handle has become too long, with the result that when closing
the band or wire ring of the prosthesis, one could abut upon the promontorium. This is a feared maneuver in stapes surgery since overly vehement manipulations may lead to hearing loss or breaking in of the footplate. The front part of this forceps has been taken back enabling better working in the tympanum.

Besides the standard round knife with a 45-degree bend, the bending of the disc knife by 25 degrees has proven very effective in endaural surgery due to the fact of passing through the auditory canal associated with a
changed angle of view and direction of work, which is steeper in comparison with the retroauricular approach.
