The Wigand retractor is well suited for endaural interventions. The sharp
part of the retractor is inserted into the incision on the posterior wall of the
auditory canal and keeps the soft parts of the pinna as well as the concha
away from the view into the auditory canal. The blunt portion displaces the
tragus and avoids injury of the latter as is often the case with other, sharp
retractors. The intactness of this structure is very advantageous since
transplants are often obtained from the tragus area. There is one retractor
each for both ear sides. The retractor with the blunt end on the right is
used for the left ear, the retractor with the blunt end on the left is used for
the right ear. |
